Water is the foundation of every great beer, making up more than 90% of the final product. But it’s not just about purity—minerals in the water play a crucial role in the brewing process, affecting mash pH, yeast health, and the overall flavor profile. The right balance of minerals can enhance malt sweetness, hop bitterness, and mouthfeel. Whether you’re brewing a crisp pilsner, a hop-forward IPA, or a rich stout, understanding and adjusting your water can take your homebrew to the next level.

To help understand your water and to help adjust or build your water profile, the current water profile is available from Colorado Springs Utilities. Depending on where in Colorado Springs you live, you’ll have a different water profile due to CSU having different water sources. Once you know your water source, you can use the attached PDF to find your water analysis.

Finding your water source is a little clumsy because CSU doesn’t have a direct way to do this. You can use the Flouride Levels in Drinking Water page and enter your address. Your water source will show in the search result.
