Executive Meeting

Hosted at Front Range BBQ (Old Town Colorado Springs)

Attending: Ned Brush, John Haven, Mike McGuckin, Michele Gandy, John Landreman, Greg Mizell, Brian Paradisi, Lori Paradisi

Next general meeting (GM):

11 September, 6PM, at Cat & Joe’s house, 4420 Wintergreen Cir, Colorado Springs, CO 80916 Directions. It’s a potluck – don’t forget to bring something to munch on!  It’s also time for the Iron Brewer Battle.  It will be a people’s choice competition, so get there early and vote for your favorite!  Don’t forget to bring your homebrew.  Last month we finally had a great homebrew table – let’s make it two months in a row — Bring Your Homebrew!   If it’s good, show it off.  If it’s bad, seek feedback from many of our qualified judges.  I know you’ve got some beer – bring it!  Bring a raffle item and help support the club!

Iron Brewer Battle: People’s Choice, awards to top three; e-mail Justin about voting board. Do we have ballots printed?

Recap of events:

Springs Beer Fest: expectations from Brian Mark were too high and the shifts were too long.

Craft Lager Fest: Fest was much smaller at the new location – many vendors and volunteers were not able to attend after the one week delay.

State Fair: Two days of judging over 800 beers and then the Foam Fest; fun times.

Donation to the Black Forest Fire Fighters: $500 was donated to the Black Forest Benefit at Wonderland Ranch

New / recurring:

USAFA Tailgating: Approved to purchase a block of 25 – $8 tickets for the 21 September Wyoming game. Tailgate cookout starts at 5:30 PM and the game starts at 8:15 PM. See Meetup for details.

Brew Bus: Ticket Price $45?, start time 09:30, locations – Prost, Strange, Lonetree, lunch – Breckenridge, etc.

Portable Microphone System: Discussed the possibility of purchasing a system for the club. Consensus was to “cost a system” and vote at the next meeting.

Review of Equipment Buy List: We need to review the priorities of the list. The laptop has not been purchased yet.

ALL Colorado Beer Fest (ACBF): Scott Rappold and the Gazette are sponsoring a first ever homebrew competition before the ACBF. Details were provided via Meetup and should be in the food section of the 11 September Gazette. There are five categories, entries must be in NLT 18 October and will be judged on 19 October. The winner of each category will get two tickets to the ACBF.

ALL Colorado Beer Fest (ACBF): 2 November. Go to their website for details. http://www.allcoloradobeerfestival.com/ .  The BBoPP will again be judging the commercial beers. Judges and stewards are needed. Also, 2 November is AHA Learn to Brew Day and the BBoPP will be providing two brewing demonstrations – brewers and equipment are needed.

Rocky Mountain Homebrew Club Competition: Ned wants maximum BBoPP participation for the 2013 competition (entries due NLT 1 November 2013)

Need for an Equipment Custodian: Need to add this position and expand the role; manage, repair, etc.

Elections:  We need a succession plan for all positions. Elections are in November; need to announce at  GM. Need to poll officers and see who is not planning to run again. President position WILL be open 

Pizza for the Pot luck: The board approved the purchase of 3 pizzas to supplement the food at the potluck. They should be “simple” pizzas (pepperoni, vegetarian, sausage, etc.)

Pints Program: Ned and Landy are revamping the program to include the awards. Possible % discount at our store for “super points” holders. More to follow as details are available.

Incentives for Voting Board members: Possible free annual dues.

At Large members: Need them to attend meetings and should be a grooming path to becoming a board member – or because they bring needed expertise in a specific area.

Charities Selected: We will ask the ACBF team to donate directly – on behalf of the BBoPP — $250 each to Care & Share and  —- Losses??

We need a web / data person; the web needs to be “fixed” to reflect Sponsors and Supporters.

John Haven needs a front end and database for the PAFB even to manage visitor information. Ned needs a database to manage membership information. Steve said he can make these in under an hour…
